The first regular Convocation of Chittagong University was held in 1994. Before that a special Convocation had been held in 1981.

In that Convocation  physicist Abdus Salam was awarded an honorary D Sc degree. A special Professor’s Chair has been created in Chittagong University after the name of poet kazi nazrul islam.The second Convention Was held on 2009. The Chittagong University Library is the largest library in Chittagong. The number of books in this library is over two hundred thousand and it keeps six hundred periodicals. The Chittagong Museum situated in one part of the library building preserves antiquities of this region and it is open for the general public. In 2001, Chittagong University had 6 faculties, 30 departments,
3 institutes, 2 research centres and 8 residential halls. It had 13,279 students and 540 teachers, of whom 69 were women. The university had 1,597 employees including 251 officers.
